End
of the Trail Candy Shoppe - Butter Toffees
As
owner of End of the Trail Candy Shoppe, Steve Guth thrives on the art
and chemistry of candy-making. Turning simple ingredients
into toffees, chocolate creams and pecan turtles is a continuing delight.
Steve Guth fires up production by 5 every morning. End of the Trail produces
a million and a half pieces of candy each year. That's 52,000 pounds of
candy. This kind of output would have astounded his grandfather, Alvin,
who went to work for a candy store in Beaver Dam in 1921. He later bought
the store and moved it to Waupun, launching what would become a three-generation
business. Steve's father eventually sold Guth's Candies, and Steve went
to work elsewhere. However, when a local man opened End of the Trail in
1984 and offered Steve a job, he took it. Like his grandfather before
him, he soon acquired the store as his own.
