Veggie Marzipan, a traditional European confection, was first created in 1407 in Germany as "emergency bread" using the only available ingredients--sugar and almonds. The small loaves were distributed on St. Marcus Day, therefore the "Marci-Panes"-Marcus Bread (Marzipan). In order to make the Marzipan more appetizing the bakers made them up in the form of fruits and vegetables. From that time on Marzipan has become a European confection served during the Christmas holiday season.
