Wyatt's Woods by author Harold William Thorpe is a story of a young boy's summer adventure in Door County, Wisconsin. One summer, a boy named Wyatt learns of a legendary battle at Fort Mechingan, deep in the woods of Door County more than 350 years ago. Although searchers have tried, no sign of the fort has ever been found. Wyatt decides to look for the fort. At the same time, a Potawatomi boy named Robert learns about his ancestor, Red Eagle, who carved a small bear out of limestone which was lost during the battle. Robert, too, wonders about the fort and the carving. Young readers, ages 7 - 12, will enjoy following Wyatt on his search.
