Home Portraits, Architecture Worth Remembering

Marcia Sparks of Home Portraits - Architecture Worth Remembering, creates beautiful home portraits in pen and ink or in pastel, along with colorful artwork depicting Madision landmarks. She studied art and graphic design at the University of Wisconsin. At the time her art career was starting, her parents retired and moved out of their family home in Riverwoods, Illinois. Marcia came up with the idea of giving them a portrait of their house, a gift that would be a constant reminder of their many years in that home raising their family. That was her very first home portrait. Making a living doing something she loved and capturing memories for others seemed an ideal way to give art as a gift.

In 1996 she moved to the Madison area and attended her first Madison Farmer's Market. Seeing what great things Madison had to offer, her desire to create Madison artwork emerged. The Wienermobiles, the Capitol building, State Street, the University, the Memorial Union Terrace chairs and, of course, Bucky Badger leant themselves to her art. Again, she could combine doing something she loved while capturing memories of Madison for others. According to Marcia: "There were so many colorful fun icons in Madison - why would anyone want to live anywhere else."
