It is a great and rare privilege to introduce the precise and breath-taking work of an artist whose work, by any standard, is exquisite and memorable. As owner of KLN Gallerys, LLC, I am honored to present publicly for the first time the beautiful work of my mentor and friend, Professor Ron Daggett. Professor Daggett taught at the University of Wisconsin for 29 years. During that time, he invented one of the first successful all-plastic human heart valves and to this day still receives thank you notes from valve recipients. In 1963 Professor Daggett took one art class through the UW-Madison Art Department and as he wryly comments, "I started painting and it became a disease." Professor Daggett draws first in pencil, then sketches over his drawing in ink and finally adds watercolor - "only on location". Even as the Professor approached his ninth decade, he would rise at 4:30 AM to head to Culver's for a huge breakfast to fuel his foray into a wonderland of potential paintings. He estimates he has completed in excess of 600 drawings, and usually has 12 - 15 drawings in process at any given time. Professor Daggett has never sold any of his work, preferring instead to give approximately 150 drawings and watercolors to appreciative family and friends. Especially prominent in his work are scenes from Madison including Campus, State Street, and the Capitol. These nostalgic images will appeal to those with fond memories of their time in Madison. I first met Professor Daggett in May, 2001, when I typed his wife's biography; then I typed his autobiography. Along the way he became a good friend and mentor. When he showed me his art, I said, "Professor, your art is a living history of Madison; the city should see this body of work." And at the age of 86 he said, "Well, let's start a business." That was the start of KLN Gallerys. | |||||||||||||||||
