Hundreds of people throughout the Madison area are members of community supported agriculture (CSA) farms.Through their membership, they receive weekly deliveries of produce from local farms. Deliveries often contain produce that members have never before heard of or eaten. While CSA members have been aided in their culinary endeavors with information and recipes provided by their farms, many members felt the need for a more coordinated and comprehensive resource pertaining to local produce.
The Madison Area Community Supported Agriculture Coalition (MACSAC) heard their call and took on the challenge of creating such a resource. Thus, the Food Book project was born, and From Asparagus to Zucchini: A Guide to Farm-Fresh, Seasonal Products was published. The book's 195 pages are graced with scrumptious recipes, cooking tips, food preservation instructions, and resources about eating locally and organically. Although the book was conceptualized primarily for members of community supported agriculture (CSA) farms, virtually all the resources within it apply to gardeners and consumers of locally grown produce from farmers' markets, roadside stands, and grocery co-ops.
