| Marcia Sparks Marcia Sparks was born and raised in Riverwoods, Illinois, where her parents physically built their home. In 1982, they retired and with all of the children long out of the house, subsequently moved into a condo. Marcia wanted to make them a gift as a reminder of the old place and all the good times she and her family had there. At the time, Marcia was living in Menomonie, Wisconsin, studying art/graphic design at the University of Wisconsin - Stout. Seeing as her husband and she were poor students with two sons of their own, she had to think creatively. She started sketching and soon drew them a house portrait - her very first. Soon after, Marcia wondered if she could sell those house portraits. Making a living doing something that pleased her and captured memories for others seemed ideal. So, Marcia began participating in fine art shows around the greater Chicago area. As business bloomed in Illinois, she became more involved in Wisconsin events, including locations like: Appleton (Art in the Park), Neenah (Bergstrom-Mahler Art Show) and Madison (Art Fair on the Square). Twenty-three years since that first portrait, Marcia still gets a kick out of doing them. She's met many people, heard many wonderful stories, and shown her work in many exciting places. Her favorite drawing is still the one that represents good memories for a family, whether it is done as a housewarming gift for someone's first home, or as a farewell gift to someone finishing a long residence. | |||||||||||||||||
