"My dream of Michael's Frozen Custard started when I was a child growing up in rural Wisconsin. I have great memories of making frozen custard with my mom using ice chipped from a nearby lake during winter. My vision was to build a small neighborhood custard stand serving rich and creamy frozen custard. This vision became a reality in 1986 when I was 25. I quit my job in Milwaukee driving a forklift and opened Michael's Frozen Custard in a tiny converted gas station in Madison. Word spread quickly of our delicious custard, and today, my partner Perry and I have 4 Michael's locations that are landmarks in the Madison area. They are quintessential gathering places for friends and neighbors on warm summer evenings. Michael's Frozen Custard is still made the same way today as it was on opening day in 1986: hand packed in small batches using only the finest ingredients.
