Roth Kase USA Ltd is a Monroe, Wisconsin-based specialty cheese manufacturer. Roth Kase's niche in the U. S. cheese market, according to CEO and owner Fermo Jaeckle, is the production of classic European cheeses like Gruyere, Havarti, Fontina, Butter Kase, and Raclette. Once the domain of European manufacturers, these specialty cheese varieties are made in modern cheese-making facilities that utilize some of the traditional labor-intensive processes established in Europe long ago. Some of Roth Kase's cheesemakers were trained in Switzerland. Steve McKeon, President and Chief Operating Officer, is proud of the company's unique production procedures and attention to authenticity and detail saying that "we're creating a piece of art, not a piece of science." In the 1970's, Fermo Jaeckle started as a cheese importer, focusing on European specialty cheeses. Then in 1991, he and two Swiss cousins purchased a cheese facility in Monroe and converted it into a modern plant capable of making traditional, handcrafted cheeses as efficiently as possible.
Roth Kase has the nation's largest operational copper vat used in making Gruyere, its flagship product. At present Roth Kase is the only known U. S. manufacturer of Gruyere. Roth Kase distributes its world class and award-winning cheeses throughout the country. Wisconsinmade.com is pleased to include this Green County cheesemaker among our growing family of Wisconsin artisans.
