Door County has been growing cherries since the trees were introduced in the late 1800s in the town of Sturgeon Bay. Today, the most popular cherry in Door County is the Montmorency cherry. Visitors to Door County fall in love with the assortment of products that come about from these cherries: jams, fudge, pastries, baking mixes and, of course, dried cherries. There is even delightful bacon smoked in the smoke of cherrywood.
