Honoring the Many Faces of Motherhood—The Wisconsin Way

Apr 22nd 2025

“To describe my mother would be to write about a hurricane in its perfect power. Or the climbing, falling colors of a rainbow.”
Maya Angelou

Mother’s Day is a time to honor the women who make a difference in our lives—not just with grand gestures, but with everyday grace. It’s not one-size-fits-all. The word “mom” can mean the person who raised you, the one who stepped in, or the friend who quietly shows up time and time again. It can even mean a wagging tail greeting you at the door, or soil-stained hands nurturing a garden to life.

At WisconsinMade, we work with over 100 independent artisans, family-run bakeries, and small-scale makers across the state. Each item in our Mother’s Day Collection is made by real people—many of whom are moms themselves—crafting everything from traditional Danish Kringles in Racine to small-batch spa soaps in Baraboo. Some work out of kitchens passed down through generations; others in studios surrounded by farmland. What unites them is pride in their work and care for their community.

This year’s collection includes a variety of food gifts, artisan chocolates, handcrafted ceramics, cozy home goods, wool garden pellets, and pet treats—because we know moms wear many hats (sometimes all at once). These are products with a story, made slowly, intentionally, and with Wisconsin roots.

As you think about how to celebrate the mothers in your life, we invite you to choose something that reflects who they are—not just what they do. Something small, maybe, but thoughtful. Something that feels personal. And something that supports the makers who call this place home.
