White Gull Inn Cookbook

Andy Coulson

In 1896, an inn was established in the small village of Fish Creek that has become a landmark on Wisconsin's Door County Peninsula. That year, German-born Dr. Herman Welcker from Milwaukee fell in love with the town while on vacation. He purchased land and built what is now the White Gull Inn. Welcker's guests were treated to a regimen of vigorous exercise, rest, and three hearty meals a day. Generations of cooks, innkeepers, and guests have come and gone since the Welckers' days, but fine dining has remained a tradition.

Under current innkeepers Andy Coulson and Jan Coulson, the White Gull has built an award-winning reputation. Along with compliments and national recognition have come requests for recipes, so in 1990 the inn published its first cookbook (Favorite Recipes from our Kitchen, The White Gull Inn). However, the talented chefs at the White Gull never stop creating, hence the creation of The White Gull Inn--More Favorite Recipes From Our Kitchen--Centennial Cookbook. The recipes showcase local ingredients, bringing alive the flavors and magic of Door County and the 100-year-old tradition of The White Gull Inn.
